Major Annual Events

LGBTQ Dinner Club

Join us once a month for the LGBTQ Dinner Club. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, share stories and build a stronger community with other LGBTQ individuals at UB. The LGBTQ Dinner Club meets at Creekside Village Community Center (North Campus) from 6 pm - 8 pm.

Spring 2012 Semester Dates:

Transgeneration Support Group

Transgeneration, hosted by Pride Center of WNY, is a support group for individuals that identify as transgender, transsexual, gender-queer or for those individuals who have questions about gender identity and expression. The group provides a safe space to meet for mutual support, friendship, social activities and to promote the exploration of gender in a positive and affirming environment.

Meetings will be held on January 19, February 16 and April 19. Transportation is provided to and from Transgeneration group meetings, leaving from North Campus at 5:15 pm. Please contact Jim Bowman at jbowman2@buffalo.edu if you need transportation.

LGBTQ Bazaar

The LGBTQ Bazaar celebrates the LGBTQ community and provides cultural enrichment opportunities for students and the UB community through informational poster displays, entertainment, crafts and other traditions each October. The LGBTQ Bazaar provides an exciting and engaging environment for students to share and celebrate with the UB community.

Coming Out Week

In conjunction with National Coming Out Day, Coming Out Week at UB celebrates the LGBTQ community at UB and encourages students to be their authentic selves. Events such as the LGBTQ Bazaar, coming out workshops, drags shows, film discussions provide for a wide range of opportunities for the UB campus community to learn more about and connect with the UB LGBTQ community.

Transgender Day of Remembrance

Transgender Day of Remembrance is an international event to memorialize those killed in acts of anti-transgender bias. Started in 1998 in honor of Rita Hester as the “Remembering Our Dead” project, Transgender Day of Remembrance has flowered into a worldwide phenomenon. Transgender Day of Remembrance serves as an opportunity for the transgender community and its allies to memorialize these people as they would wish to be remembered. By remembering, we may also take the opportunity to envision a world safe for people who transgress or flout the gender binary, as well as their allies, families, lovers, and friends. A Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) Memorial program is held each year at UB and is support earlier in the week by educational programs about and support programs for the Transgender community. The TDoR Memorial program occurs on the third Friday of November.

Lavender Reception

The Lavender reception is an annual event each April that honors the academic achievements of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Ally (LGBTQA) graduating undergraduate and graduate students. We encourage everyone to attend.

Buffalo Pride Parade

2011 Buffalo Pride Parade

Buffalo Pride Parade

UB celebrates LGBTQ Pride Month by marching in the annual Buffalo Pride Parade. The parade happens every year on the first Sunday in June. Any and all students, faculty, staff, alumni and their friends and family are welcome and encouraged to march with the UB group. Our participation in the parade not only celebrates the LGBTQ community members at UB, but also sends out a message to the Western New York community that everyone is welcome UB.
