Mission of Student Affairs
Student Affairs houses the programs and offices that are collectively responsible for providing services and programs to support the social, interpersonal, and emotional growth of UB students. In this Division, the education and development of students are viewed holistically.
While academic units play a critical role in a student's cognitive development, Student Affairs assumes the major responsibility for helping to create a positive campus environment that enhances and supports that development. The quality of student life is significantly affected by the availability, variety, and integrity of services and extra academic support programs on campus. It is our task to build alliances between the classroom and campus life, and to provide and opportunity for students to experience the excitement and responsibility that comes from being an active member of a community of higher learning.
The mission of Student Affairs is consistent with the University's general mission of teaching, service, and research. Student Affairs provides excellent student services, student development programs, and activities for the University's diverse undergraduate and graduate
student populations, with particular emphasis given to unique support services for minority and disadvantaged students. Student Affairs contributes to the comprehensive educational experiences of students by fostering an environment in which students can address and solve problems and explore and test their values, interests, and skills. As a partner in the educational enterprise, through myriad programs and services, Student Affairs encourages the intellectual, vocational, personal, social, and cultural development of students. Student Affairs also assists students in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and insights that facilitate life-long learning and a sense of personal and interpersonal competence and human understanding.
The primary components of the Division include: Student Service, and Auxiliary Services. The collaboration and communication among these components increases the efficiency of service provision to students.
